Well, it has happened… for the first time in over 10 years, I am sick with the flu! What’s a holistically-minded health coach to do? “Go to the doctor,” my concerned fiancé said, “he can give you medicine!”

Hmmm… I see this a bit differently. First of all, my kitchen is full of medicine! I have healing foods, herbal teas, powerful spices. If I mix these with lots of rest and plenty of water, now I’ve got a plan.

I see this as an opportunity. Something got me to this place. Perhaps too much work, not enough rest, or a bit too much stress. I had reached a place of imbalance where my immune system could no longer keep up. Now, as my body fights this “flu bug,” as I rest and fast, it is also detoxifying the body. Not only that, but I will build immunity to this virus.

If I were to take over the counter or prescription drugs, they are usually designed to shut down the symptoms. Hey wait, those symptoms are my body fighting this thing and winning! I want to support my body, not give it other toxins to have to overcome!

A couple of years ago, I came across this recipe that I held on to “just in case.” It’s called Nature’s Flu Shots. You will blend all ingredients thoroughly and store in a glass jar. Take one cup four times per day until the symptoms are resolved.

-Juice of 6 Fresh Lemons
-One bulb of Garlic
-2 tsp. Ginger Powder
-2 tbsp. Honey (Real, organic, responsibly-harvested)
-3 cups Pineapple Juice
-1/4 tsp. Cayenne Powder

These ingredients fight bacterial and viral infections. I went from a fever of 100.9 down to 89.9 within a short time of starting this treatment. My cough also became much more bearable. This little recipe is simply too good not to share, though I hope you never need it!

P.S. If you get the flu and have a dangerously high fever, by all means, go to the doctor! That’s when some symptoms may need to be shut down, as things are happening too fast for your body. Always common sense first! You know your body best!
