We often recommend an Epsom salt bath after a massage therapy session to extend the effects of the massage. However, Epsom salt does so much more!
First discovered in a saline spring in Epsom, England, Epsom salt is a natural mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate that is easily absorbed through the skin, which is your largest organ. Taking a bath with these salts is the easiest way to enjoy the benefits.
Massage therapy gets metabolic waste moving. Drinking water is one important way to move that waste out of your body. You can then take detoxifying to the next level by taking an Epsom salt bath, which promotes perspiration and draws acidic waste through the pores of the skin. Absorbing sulfate promotes good skin quality and supports joint and nervous system tissue. Magnesium is also most easily absorbed through the skin and is known as nature’s muscle relaxer. It is common to have low magnesium levels due to stress and the decline of the quality of our food and environment. Epsom salt reduces pain, inflammation and muscle soreness.
To take an Epsom salt bath, use 1-2 cups of epsom salt with perhaps a few drops of your favorite essential oil and some lovely candlelight to create a sense of calm. Use warm water, not hot, so as not to dry your skin. Swirl the salt around in the tub so that it dissolves. Soak up to 15-20 minutes. Relax and Enjoy!!!
